A SPIRIT OF COMPETITION

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerry swam competitively along with his five brothers. He gained national attention as a young athlete, achieving gold All-American status ranked as the #1 high school swimmer in the U.S. From 1984-1988, he consistently ranked as one of the top 15 world-ranked swimmers, reaching the highest ranking of third in the world. In 1986, Jerry earned the title, "U.S. Open National Champion," and in 1987, he captured a gold medal at the Pan American Games.

In 1988, while qualifying to represent Greece as an Olympian, not being known for taking the easy way or chasing short-cuts, he passed that opportunity for a shot at his real dream of becoming a United States Olympian. He placed third at the United States Olympic Team trials, qualifying him to become the first alternate for the U.S. Olympic Team. While missing the team by only 18 hundredths of a second, he proudly watched the 1988 Olympics knowing his trajectory of previous performances would have finished in the top 5 at the Seoul, Korea Olympic Games.

While it may have felt like a setback during that moment, it only fueled his passion for physical and mental performance.

“Performance starts with being very intentional, both physically and mentally. There is no magic bullet, no magical bumper sticker advice, and never a short cut. It takes intentional effort by putting in the time and effort. It also takes good health with clear thoughts."

A PASSION FOR coaching

Under his guidance, Jerry has led others to become world record holders, to win national championships, or accomplish life-lone health goals.

"I will always have my wins and successes, but celebrating someone else's success will always be the real win. I feel pride for others when they share success stories. Some of those successes may include: lowering their resting heart rate, becoming their own health advocate, improving relationships with medical providers, or have finally lost that 20 extra pounds as a positive side effect."

Living Intentionally Well is a skill that develops with time, effort, knowledge, and a little help from friends.

A Lifelong Commitment to wellness

Over the past four decades, Jerry has continued pursuing competitive swimming and continues to be a world-ranked athlete. In 2020, Jerry achieved his lifelong dream of setting his 20th masters swimming world record. And he isn't finished. Achieving peak performance through living Intentionally Well has only fueled his passion for continued success and for helping others realize their dreams.

Jerry earned a Master's Degree in Nutritional Sciences and is published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. As an adjunct scholar, Jerry taught graduated level sports nutrition classes, coaching, and teaching at Xavier University. Later became the Wellness and Fitness Coordinator for the U.S. Police Corps, a high-end police academy funded by the State Department. Soon after, he served as the Sports Nutrition Director at the U.S. Naval Academy and performed extensive nutritional clinical work at the Naval Hospital.

“While my life’s greatest achievement is to lead by example, my real passion is to teach others how to become their own coach.”
